Goals

This project marked the beginning of my journey into the wonderful world of XR. I made some key learnings regarding asset management, colliders, UV mapping, particle effects, light baking and creating performant friendly models which I have carried with me ever since. I am not a developer so I used an Oculus Unity Package to be able to navigate the environment. I really enjoyed modelling in 3ds Max and the way it lent itself so nicely to architectural structures. I modelled every element from scratch. Taking on a city was a little ambitious for a first project, but it also meant the learning curve was higher.

The concept for the experience was the following: you wake up to see some white footsteps, you follow these along the city and notice that they seem to have an alien effect on the world around them, like turning fire blue and elevating chairs and people. It makes you wonder what this creature at the end could be. Finally you get closer to the source and realise it must have emerged from an alien spaceship that has crashed into the city, as you approach the ship you see your shadow on the wall. You have two heads and octopus like tentacles on your back. It seems like you were the alien all along and we are all a little stranger than we think we are. The final scene was difficult to implement without prior programming knowledge but I hope to revisit and finalise the concept soon.
